There are a number of reasons why you might want to
become an IT professional. If you love computers and technology, this desire
can turn into a profitable career. In a world of ever-changing technology, do
you have what it takes to become an IT professional..? Whether this decision
has come from a change in career plans, or if it is something you have always
wanted to do, remember If you are committed, it's possible to achieve your
goal! You must be inspired by Technology, this is not just a job to me it's a
lifestyle, it's forever and ever-changing and you need to work hard and be
dedicated to stay on top. Follow these steps to ensure you are on the right
path to achieve your goal.
Estimate your current skills and
knowledge
Before commencing your IT profession you have to
evaluate your potential. Are you best suited for break / fix computer repair,
or are you more inclined to become a network professional..? In my opinion and
this is how I started learning first about computer hardware and software, all
the parts and what they do, how it all works,
how to diagnose - troubleshoot - fault find to be able to repair when
things go wrong and then move on to learning about networking because a network
is not possible without the computers in place. I have known network
administrators that have had no clue when it comes to repairing a computer..! Choosing
a specific path at this critical phase can help you become successful in that
niche but with the aim to broaden your knowledge and skills in all areas. There
are a lot of techs out there with generalised skills. You should pick a
specific path and become an expert in that area. Sure, you’ll need to know the
basics, but becoming an expert, for example, in administering a windows server
will help improve your chances of getting hired. You also need to remember in
IT you never stop learning, Like I said before IT Is ever-changing and to me
it's a lifestyle continually developing your skills and knowledge in different
areas.
Keep Learning & Hunt for advanced
technology
Technology is continuously evolving. It grows and
changes so much, it’s often difficult to keep up. Hard working IT professionals
must always seek out new technology with open arms. Read forums, read manufacturers
websites, and talk to colleagues to make sure you’re not missing out on
anything new. Doing so will help you stay abreast of emerging technology that
will help you remain relevant in your field.
Build your passion and develop your
experience
Passion and experience are both are important
factors that promote your IT career. If you’re not passionate about your job as
an IT person, you will not develop into the type of professional required to
stay in the field for the long term. If you find yourself becoming stagnant,
experiment with different Operating Systems, research and learn how to do new
tech things, or get a new certification.
Start with reasonable goals
Unless you already have a degree in computing, you
will need some type of training. You might opt to do the CompTIA A+ Training
and certification like I did but take into account this training and
certification is expensive but worth doing not just for the certification but
the knowledge and experience you come away with after, or go vendor-specific
with the Microsoft MCSE or the Cisco CCNA. Take your time and study, or take a
course devoted to help you pass these certs, as they will help a tech with
little or no experience get their foot in the door of a larger corporation.
When you do get that chance and you have your foot in the door make the most of
it your far from there yet! you should still be training yourself, go to night
school college after work keep learning and developing your knowledge.
Your Future Is In Your Hands - Become
an IT professional concluded
If your like me and love tech and are a tech-mad at
heart, you should seriously consider doing what you love as a profession. Just
remember, it is a lot of hard work and requires continuing education as
technology grows and new advancements are made. passion and dedication are a
must for IT it's a lifestyle not just a job, getting paid to do and keep learning
what you love is a bonus..! Thanks for reading and I hope this helps anyone who
is passionate about a career in the IT Field.
